Series "Faces"

The theme of my drawings is the portrait as an independent work of art, but also artistic-meditative-philosophical thinking about the portrayed. In them, perhaps most accurately, I search for material captured by the spirit,, or the spirit in the material ,. These are very well-known people and characters, I have been attached to them all my life, and yet, feeling millimeter by millimeter of the body and discovering layer by layer of the soul, carefully and concentratedly, I feel like I meet them again. The goal of my work is for each point to take its natural place, describe it and place it in space, time, atmosphere, overall feeling. There is no sound, no games, no movement, the face remains “frozen” at one point, although it does not look simply petrified. I use the undeniable power of stillness to keep the portrait clear, convincing and powerful. The format is always the same, and the frame is carefully chosen. The technique is different, but it fulfills the condition that it can be indefinitely erased and remade. By carefully observing and expressing the observed, I try to understand and feel the fineness of shades, the fit and resistance of one part of the head with another, dynamic-static rest or both in one surface, to feel the finest skin matter, sharpness and firmness of hair, smoothness and slipperiness of the eye; that is, sadness of look, sad expression of lips or defiant determination …

That search for the softness of feathers or steel strength, whether it is the material or psychological side of a person, draws me deeper and deeper, forcing me to change and refine my style, looking for new ones. more convincing ways to show something. At the same time, I try to express my personal impression gained by observing the model and to implement it in my work, changing or emphasizing certain parts of nature. I try to convey to the observer my interest in artistic elements such as co-material, light, shape, surface, line …; but also for non-artistic elements in the narrowest sense, such as psychological action, character character, atmosphere … and I arouse his desire to continue further research alone, and outside of drawing. In my case, the fineness of observation, expression and emphasis and their relationship are crucial parameters in the quality of work.
